A Night in Shibuya
Davis Jefferson Austin
Shibuya is a brilliant spot for street photography. I have spent many days walking its streets searching for excellent pictures, and it never disappoints. Recently, I have begun to spend more time in Tokyo at night.
As I made my way to a gallery opening in the early evening, I dedicated a few hours to capturing scenes in Shibuya. The city shifts from the workday's busyness to the night's relaxed atmosphere. The pressure of formality has diminished, providing an excellent chance to photograph the streets.
During my visit to Shibuya Crossing, I explored all my favourite locations. I found success effortlessly, with many photographic opportunities beyond what I could capture. For my three-hour session in Shibuya, I photographed twice as many frames as I usually do.
The gallery show was vibrant, enjoyable, and filled with amazing artists showcasing their spectacular work. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking about the streets outside the gallery and how I wanted to explore every side street.
At the show's peak, I slid out into the night and immediately began shooting. Before I knew it, two more hours had passed. What had started as a quick shoot and a cup of coffee before an engagement became a great night of shooting in Shibuya.
