Omiya A Love Affair With Street Photography

Omiya Street Photography:
Omiya, located in Saitama just north of Tokyo, seamlessly blends into the metropolitan landscape, despite being in a different prefecture. This hidden gem is often referred to as "little Shinjuku" and is sure to impress. With hardly any tourists around, some might even argue that it surpasses its more widely recognized counterpart. What truly captivates me is the stark contrast between the gritty, subdued atmosphere of the station and the vibrant lights of the commercial area on the opposite side.
Renowned for its lively Izakaya nightlife, Omiya also presents intriguing scenes during the day. The sunlight brings to life the long, narrow alleys bustling with bars, food stalls, and a diverse mix of people. A maze of weathered electric wires connects the colorful signs that illuminate the path for nighttime visitors, creating a striking backdrop for our photographs. This distinctive character, a reminiscence of a bygone era, shines through in our images.
On the other side of the tracks lies Omiya's business and shopping district, characterized by a glossy exterior that still evokes a sense of nostalgia. Shopping here transcends mere commercialism; it is a journey down memory lane. This unique atmosphere is remarkably difficult to replicate.
Just a ten-minute walk from Omiya Station brings you to the Hikawa Shrine. Set within a spacious area, it showcases bridges, ponds, and majestic torii gates. A lengthy pathway lined with three large torii gates adds to its charm, while the shrine’s vibrant orange structure beautifully contrasts with the lush greenery surrounding it.
A day spent capturing street photography at Omiya Station promises a rewarding experience. Whether during the day or night, the abundance of opportunities ensures you'll return home with fantastic shots and lasting memories.
